Tornado warning for Mid-South counties expired

(WMC-TV) - The tornado warning issued by the national weather service for Shelby County and Crittenden County has expired.

Around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, a waterspout was reported. The tornado warning in Shelby County expired at 8:30 p.m.

The second tornado warning issued for Crittenden County was canceled shortly before 8:30 p.m. The first warning for Crittenden expired at 7:45 p.m.

There is no damage reported in Crittenden County or Shelby County.

Hundreds are without power in Poinsett County, AR as strong storms moved through the area.

According to the National Weather Service, the police and EMS were reporting power lines and several billboards were down around the Waldenburg area.

Entergy Arkansas is reporting approximately 500 people are without power in Poinsett County.

Enjoy food, games and fun at community festival

Rides, games, food, music and fun. That’s what promised at the first ever Phanatical Phunphest Community Festival in Forrest City, Arkansas. The festival will take place June 12 -15.

There will be rides for children and adults. Some of the rides include Gravitron Spaceship, Zero Gravity, and Ring of Fire Spectacular.

There will also be live entertainment on Saturday.  The live entertainment includes:

  • YouthFest
    • Free Flippers Tumbling Team of Brinkley, Arkansas
    • Tri-County Taekwondo  of Forrest City, Arkansas
    • Thunder Cloud Dance Team of Wynne, Arkansas
    • Top Notch Training Center Cheerleading Team of Wynne, Arkansas
  • Local entertainers.                    

Event organizers say all performances start at 1:00 p.m. sharp and last until 7:00 p.m.

Memorial service celebrates the life of Sidney Randall

Walnut Ridge High School junior Anna Bland said she will remember Sidney as the sweet girl who was always smiling.

WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - The Walnut Ridge community celebrated the life of 14-year-old Sidney Randall who went missing on March 9 and was found on May 18 in the Black River.

Family and friends filled the Walnut Ridge High School gym. Even people in the community who did not know Randall joined to pay their respects to the family.

"My daughter was one of Sidney's friends, and she'd been missing for so long. I just felt today these kids could come together and get some closure," said parent Tina Dunlap. "All these kids are having a hard time, and I just hope that it helps them get past it."

Walnut Ridge High School junior Anna Bland said she will remember Sidney as the sweet girl who was always smiling.

"Sidney was on the flag line, I play the alto sax in band," Bland said. "I didn't know her well, but the few times I did talk to her she was always really sweet. So, I just wanted to pay my respects."

Truck hits, kills child riding bike

Balloons and a stuffed bear mark a spot Mykayla Hawkins was hit.

HELENA-WEST HELENA, AR- (WMC-TV) - A Mid-South community grieves the loss of a seven-year-old girl who was hit a killed by a truck while riding her bike.

Neighbor Rosie Donald lives down the street from where it happened in a Helena-West Helena community.

"It was real bad. Tragedy, real bad," she said.

Balloons and a stuffed bear mark a spot Mykayla Hawkins was hit.

Police said the driver of the truck, Arthur English, in his late 70s called 911. He is an amputee and a diabetic on medications and probably should not have been driving.

He was charged with negligent homicide and inattentive driving.

Mykayla's grandmother is her guardian. Relatives said she is too upset to talk. They also said her grandmother feels guilty because she let Mykayla ride her bike.

The death of a child hit the community hard.
