 The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation unveiled David Crockett State Park’s seven new, energy efficient Green Cabins on Monday June 6.  The Green Cabins offer new technologies addressing energy efficiency, pollution prevention, children’s health and stormwater management, in addition to easily transferable energy conservation practices.  Upon silver certification as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the new cabins will mark the first of their kind in a Tennessee State Park.

Arkansas enacts ban on synthetic marijuana products

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - It is now illegal to sell synthetic marijuana products in Arkansas.

The Arkansas Health Board on Friday passed a measure to ban the products, sold under such brand names as K-2 and Spice. Gov. Mike Beebe signed the measure shortly after the vote, which made the ban official.

Health Board members say the products have inconsistent levels of the intoxicating chemical and cause potentially dangerous health effects.

Witness describes chaotic scene in parking lot of West Memphis Walmart

WEST MEMPHIS, AR (WMC-TV) - One of the many witnesses to the violent May 20th shootout between authorities and a pair of suspects wanted for killing two West Memphis police officers described the violent scene Thursday.

Surveillance video recorded that day outside the Walmart in West Memphis shows customers calmly walking into the store, unaware that two killers were lurking.

Salin Bass was one of those customers.  In the video, Bass' black Denali is parked just steps away from where Jerry and Joseph Kane opened fire on two Crittenden County sheriffs.

Mother of West Memphis suspect has not seen video of shootout

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - One day after video of the deadly West Memphis shootout was released, the mother of one of the suspects spoke out about that day.

While Jerry Kane traveled the country with his 16-year-old son, Joseph, his mother was in Marysville, Ohio.  On the night the Kanes were killed, Patricia Holt received a phone call.

"I had a call from that common law wife of my son's in Florida on Thursday night, the 20th of May," Holt said Thursday.

Video shows teen open fire on Ark. police officers

JONESBORO, AR (WMC-TV) - A prosecutor has found no indications of wrongdoing by police in West Memphis who shot and killed a father and son who were sought for the shooting deaths of two police officers.

Prosecutor Mike Walden said Jerry and Joseph Kane would have faced capital murder charges had they not been killed in a shootout with police in the parking lot of a West Memphis Walmart in May.

"It has not been a difficult call for this office to say that this was a justified shooting," prosecuting attorney Mike Walden said.

The prosecutor released his report on the shootings Wednesday.

Wildlife officer who slammed into shooters' van praised as hero

WEST MEMPHIS, AR (WMC-TV) - The wildlife officer who slammed his truck into the van of shooters suspected of gunning down two West Memphis Police officers is being called a hero.

Investigators are down speaking to wildlife officer Michael Neal, which is why he was able to finally speak freely about the deadly day in West Memphis last May.
