Ex-Globetrotter recommended for Ark. House | News
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The state Claims Commission has recommended that a former Harlem Globetrotter elected to the Arkansas House take his seat in the coming legislative session.
Questions were raised about whether ex-basketball player Fred Smith meets the residency requirements to represent a district in eastern Arkansas.
Willie Gammon, a write-in candidate who lost to Smith in the Nov. 2 election, filed a complaint last year arguing that Smith lives in Walls, Miss., not Arkansas.
Smith says he lives with his stepfather in Crawfordsville, Ark., and occasionally travels to northern Mississippi to visit his son.
Four commission members voted unanimously Tuesday to recommend that Smith be seated in the House
