Step back with us to "Places in Time - Circa 1862-1920 Historic Tour" in Bolivar, TN. On May 5th and 6th, The Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities (APTA) will be conducting The APTA Annual Historic Tour. Bolivar is located only about an hour east of Memphis and 30 minutes south of Jackson, TN. With over 150 homes and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, it has a lot of history, just waiting to be told.
The moment in time was 1862. The Civil War was advancing into West Tennessee. Bolivar became a target for occupation. Come see where four Union generals stayed and planned their future advancements into the South. Visit with the occupying Union forces and tour the homes and churches they lived and prayed in. Tour our beautiful downtown "Court Square" and see how Bolivar rebuilt after not only the fires of the Civil War but 5 major fires throughout its history. Visit the Court House (1868) and the historic buildings on the Square. Bask in the luxury of the new Hardeman House Hotel (1878) and experience for yourself how older buildings can be re-purposed for modern use. Several sites will be open for the first time touring.
This year, a special luncheon will be hold on Saturday, May 5th at St. James Episcopal Church in Ingram Hall from 11:00AM until 2:00PM. The meal will feature recipes from the APTA Sampler II cookbook. Tickets for this event may be purchased in advance from www.thepillars.org and will be available on the day of the event for $10.00.
Tickets for the historic tour are $20.00 each. Special discounts for groups or 10 or more ($18), seniors ($15), and students 18 and younger ($10).
