$15 million grant will connect Downtown to West Memphis

(WMC-TV) – Mid-Southerners are one step closer to being able to walk or ride their bikes across the Mississippi River thanks to a nearly $15 million federal grant.

The money will help pay for construction of a pedestrian and bike trail from downtown Memphis to West Memphis on the Harahan Bridge. Ultimately, the project will make it possible for someone to cycle from Shelby Farms all the way to Arkansas.

But the project doesn’t just include bike paths. The grant will also pay for improvements to Central Station and to the Main Street trolley tracks.

The grant matches the $15 million that has already been raised from donations and pledged by local governments.
