Information provided by Mid-South Food Bank

The Chickasaw Council of the Boy Scouts of America has placed Mid-South Food Bank collection bins around the city in support of the 2012 Scouting for Food Campaign, “Feeding A Great Need.”  One in five people in the Mid-South is struggling with food insecurity, which means lack of sufficient food to meet basic needs.

Non-perishable food can be place in collection bins at the Kroger stores at 4270 Summer Ave. and 2942 Kirby Whitten Road and at the Chickasaw Council, Boy Scouts of America office, 171 S. Hollywood St.  A monetary collection is available at Bryant’s Breakfast, 3695 Summer Ave.  For every $1 donated, Mid-South Food Bank can distribute $4 worth of food.

Scouting for Food day is Saturday, February 11, when Boy Scouts will go door to door to collect nonperishable food items for the Mid-South Food Bank to help replenish their shelves.  There will be large collection bins set up all day at the Scout headquarters on Hollywood, across from the Board of Education building and Scouts will be at the Kirby Whitten and Summer Ave. Kroger stores to collect donations.  The most-needed items include canned tuna, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned meats and stews and canned fruit juice.
