Peabody Duck Enjoy A Day In The Snow

Peabody Duck Enjoy A Day In The Snow

Snow fell over much of the Mid-South Wednesday morning leaving one to three inches of snow on grassy areas and rooftops.  One Memphis rooftop is home to the world famous Peabody Ducks.  They braved the cold and waddled through the snow on top of the Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis as they made their way to the warmer waters of Peabody fountain in the hotel lobby.

Even though they are more at home treading water, the ducks took the snow in stride.

Reminder: Winter weather preparedness tips

Reminder: Winter weather preparedness tips

With most of our Mid-South area receiving some amount of snow or ice yesterday evening and early this morning, it is clear that winter weather is already with us.

In case you missed it during the hustle and bustle of the Thanksgiving holiday, last week we shared a notice from the Shelby County Office of Preparedness regarding being ready for winter weather.

Please take some time to read through this bulletin so you and your loved ones will be ready for the next time snow and ice threatens our area.

Rush hour storms possible

Our weather team wants you to be aware that thunderstorms are possible Monday morning. We are not expecting severe weather, but you may want to allow extra time as you travel to work.

Most of the rain should be early in the day, but light scattered showers could still linger into the p.m. hours.  In any event, keep the umbrella handy all day.

Quite the change

What a turnaround! Highs are in the 70s today with sunshine abound. Most consider this nice after one of the hottest summers ever.

Highs should be in the 70s most of the week with overnight lows in the 50s.

Enjoy this fine, fine weather.

Marion school gets million dollar grant

Marion school gets million dollar grant

A Marion elementary school will get a grant worth more than one million dollars to help protect people during severe weather.

“While we can’t stop tornadoes, we certainly can help keep Arkansans safe during these events,” said State Coordinating Officer David Maxwell. “When it’s completed, this school safe room will help protect some of our youngest residents.”

The money, awarded by the state and the federal government, will pay about 75 percent of the cost of building a community safe room at Avondale Elementary School. Officials say the room will hold up to 1,000 people during dangerous weather.

“FEMA’s mitigation grant program was created to help make cities, towns and neighborhoods stronger and safer,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Nancy M. Casper. “School safe rooms are one of the best uses of these grants, so we’re pleased to help get one built in this West Memphis community.”
