There's another push for casino gambling in Shelby County.

Two area lawmakers have introduced legislation in Nashville seeking to form a committee which would study the feasibility of Memphis area casinos.

Similar proposals have been unsuccessful in the past.

Supporters point to the number of people from Memphis who drive to casinos in other states as part of the reason for the continued interest.

Many Southland Park gamblers who spoke on camera with Action News 5 were all for it. They said it would be more convenient.

"If it was as good as this one or better, I'd play in Memphis," said gambler Bill Baugh.

The president of Southland Park Gaming and Racing said they would welcome healthy competition as long as it is properly regulated.

Tunica area casinos did not return any phone calls from Action News 5.
