A pre-game tradition has been pulled from a Mid-South school district.

Public prayers will no longer be held before football games.

A minister used to say a prayer over the loud speaker before games at the East Poinsett County School District in Arkansas.

Then the Freedom from Religion Foundation sent a letter to the school district asking them to immediately end the prayers because it violates the First Amendment.

Now the school district has complied and residents are upset.

"My son's out there on that football, and someone is asking for protection while he is out there on my behalf. I appreciate that. They need that," said concerned parent Bobbie Smith.

A local pastor and several others say they want to bring the practice back.

And plan to talk to state leaders to see if there's a way to reverse the decision.
